What do we have here? Un-targeted, high resolution mass spec metabolomics of tropical plants

Charles Darwin University Theatre

Many compounds that could assist in the treatment of illnesses, such as cancer, exist in the natural environment. Unfortunately, traditional techniques can only uncover a limited number of compounds at a time.

Dr Martin Boland will present on how the use of CDU’s newly purchased high-performance, liquid chromatography-quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometers, could enable local and national companies to extract a range of helpful compounds more efficiently. For example, this methodology could be used to study the flow of micronutrients within mango plants to assess the optimum conditions for them to achieve high-quality fruiting.
